At the front, an RST F1RST fork with 100mm of travel and a tapered steerer tube absorbs the kind of trail feedback that would be exhausting on a rigid bike. Paired with a tapered sealed bearing headset and 31.8mm stem, the front end is genuinely capable and responsive - characteristics that instil confidence in young riders tackling unfamiliar terrain.

Tektro J2820 hydraulic disc brakes with 160mm rotors front and rear deliver authoritative stopping power. On technical descents, consistent braking without hand fatigue is critical, and hydraulic discs deliver it reliably. The Tektro J2820 levers offer excellent modulation - the kind of control that allows a young rider to manage their speed precisely.

Shimano CUES 9-speed drivetrain with trigger shifters provides a well-calibrated gear range for varied terrain. A Samox alloy crankset with 30t narrow-wide chainring and Shimano 9-speed 11-36t LinkGlide cassette deliver smooth, reliable shifting that holds up to the demands of real trail riding. KMC eGlide EPT chain adds corrosion resistance for all-weather use.

Schwalbe Smart Sam 20 x 2.35" 67TPI tyres offer an excellent balance of trail grip and rolling speed on hardpack and looser surfaces. Through-axle wheel fitment - 12 x 100mm front, 12 x 142mm rear - adds stiffness and precision to the wheel interface. At 10.3kg, the Charger 20 is well-controlled for a bike of this specification.
